Kiteboarding Learning Path

Kiteboarding has a “learning path” and requires instruction from a highly qualified instructor. Kite Cayuga’s mission is to provide high quality IKO sanctioned clinics and workshops in the art of kiteboarding. Contact steven@paddle-n-more.com to discuss how you can get started in the sport of kiting and schedule your lesson today. Steven provides one-on-one and group instruction for two people.

Ground School:

This discovery course is for the absolute beginner who wants to explore the sport and learn how to play and master the wind. With your IKO Instructor, you will get introduced to various aspects of the sport, and learn how to hone various skills on land prior to getting in the water all the while learning the safety rules. The IKO Instructor will make participants learn how to keep safe by showing how to assess the wind and physical location; use the safety systems; manage proper equipment; set-up; and control the trainer kite.

  • One-on-one lesson – $150 for a 2.5 hour lesson
  • Group lesson – 2 to 4 people – $95 per person for a 2.5 hour lesson

Intermediate course:

At this level, participants learn to harness the power of their kite in water and learn how to conduct water starts. Participants will learn to use the kite power to body drag in all possible directions, water relaunch the kite, self rescue, recover the board; and become proficient at the MOST VALUABLE SKILL IN KITEBOARDING … riding independently!

  • One-on-one lesson – $250 for a 2.5 hour lesson
  • Group lesson – 2 – $175 per person for a 2.5 hour lesson

Independent course:

At this level, participants will learn to ride independently and possibly learn their first jump. Your IKO Instructor will show you how to ride upwind, toe-side, attempt your first jump, and help you focus on advanced skills like controlling your speed by edging, changing direction without stopping, self-launching and self-landing safely.

  • One-on-one lesson – $250 for a 2.5 hour lesson
  • Group lesson – 2 – $175 per person for a 2.5 hour lesson

As an IKO sanctioned independent rider, you’ll be able to ride on your own and rent equipment wherever you go.

Be Aware!

Some kiteboarding instructors operate without any formal training, insurance, or experience. These programs can put both students and riding location access at risk. You should be able to verify both kite school and instructors current status and performance record though the internationally recognized training program registrar of IKO.
